Lumecca uses photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment.

FAQs

Q: Is Lumecca IPL Treatment Painful?

The Lumecca Treatment is tolerable and feels like little snaps on the skin.

Q: How Long does each Lumecca IPL Session take?

Depending on the size of the area treated, each session can take between 10 to 20 minutes.

Q: Is there any downtime with Lumecca IPL?

Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterward the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone.

After treating vascular lesions you may see the vessel blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

Q: Are there any possible side effects?

Most patients do not experience any side effects and any sensitivity reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning for 7 to 10 days after treatment.

Q: Are the results from the IPL treatment permanent?

Removal of pigmentation is largely permanent, but it can recur or new pigmentation can form with the natural aging process or continued sun exposure.

Vessels that are closed do have a chance of re-opening and re-appearing, and a clinical consult and recommendation of which to treat are advised.

The rejuvenating and skin-brightening properties typically require maintenance sessions every 4 to 8 weeks.

Q: How many sessions are required?

An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings.
